VALLENCE & McGRATH ESTABLISHED 1908

The pub at this location was until recently the last remaining residential structure on North Wall Quay and according to all accounts it was a popular meeting place for local residents and dockers. The pub was famous for hosting the first gig of the Dubliners banjo player, Barney McKenna, but it has been derelict for many years having closed for business in 2011.

Sadly the following appeared in a number of local newspapers in July 2016 "Jacek Kozakiewicz (44), was found dead on the floor of a makeshift kitchen in what used to be Vallance & McGrath's pub on Dublin's North Wall Quay on February 26, 2014. He had suffered more than 20 stab wounds."

The building is a late Victorian townhouse with a public house inserted to the ground floor. The house retains its original fenestration pattern, roof materials and overall composition. As you may have guessed the building is a protected structure as is the adjoining warehouse.

Developers had applied to build a ninety bedroom hotel on the combined sites but planning approval was rejected. Currently planning permission has been obtained for the three storey warehouse to be converted into a five storey 60 bed hotel and the pub will be be restored to its original condition.
